Mountain Soul began as a family folk project in 1997 featuring Shawn, Amanda and Daniel Kimbro. Living room practice sessions evolved into local performances in and around East Tennessee. Soon Cory and Jacob Kimbro were drafted to play "tag team performance bass," and DJ Morrison of Greenville, TN joined on Mandolin and harmony vocals.
Fast-forward 14 years and Mountain Soul, still anchored by brothers Daniel and Cory Kimbro, features new interpretations of stories written by Shawn Kimbro, while Daniel has added his own tunes to the bands ever-evolving repertoire.
Jonathan Maness joined Mountain Soul in the summer 2006 after sitting in with the band at their Thursday night bluegrass jam off the campus of the University of Tennessee. Jonathan adds a third harmony voice, strong bluegrass guitar chops and years of performing experience to Mountain Soul's new sound.
Mike Seal met Daniel while both were studying at UT's school of music. Mike was asked to join in on dobro and electric guitar after jamming with the band on another Thursday night jam session.
Mountain Soul, the band's 2011 release features the current Mountain Soul lineup, along with Chris Brown on drums and Scott Vestal on banjo, both of the Sam Bush band, while David Browning adds color to the project with his organ and piano stylings. The songs featured on the album reflect the band's collective effort to provide honest, well-crafted treatments of songs they believe tell the stories that represent life in the South.
Daniel Kimbro began studying music with his mother, Amanda when he was 8 years old. He joined the school band on trombone in the 5th grade, and his father Shawn began teaching him guitar a year later. In 2001 Daniel enrolled at the University of Tennessee studying Classical and Jazz Performance on the upright and electric bass. While at UT Daniel was a founding member of the internationally recognized jazz group "Tennessee Trombonery," winning national and international competitions in Washington, D.C. and Helsinki, Finland. He served as the principle bassist of the UT Symphony for 3 years and performed with various groups including the UT Big Band and UT Wind Ensemble. He graduated Magna Cum Laude December of 2008. Throughout high school and college Daniel helped to found and expand the bluegrass/americana group Mountain Soul with his parents and brothers Cory and Jacob Kimbro. In 2004 Daniel met Knoxville singer/songwriter Brendon James Wright, and the two founded the group Brendon James Wright and the Wrongs a year later. In 2009 Daniel joined the newgrass/folk group The Lovell Sisters. For the next two years Daniel toured extensively with the Lovells and the spinoff group Larkin Poe across the US and Europe, showcasing his bass and arranging skills on the stages of The Grand Ole Opry, The Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Watson Stage at Merlefest, and the Ryman Auditorium. Daniel has been featured on a dozen recording projects in the last 12 months and performed throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the U.K. He currently lives in Knoxville, TN with his wife of 6 years, Tiffany, and their two children Ella and Tucker.

Cory Kimbro began his musical career while still in middle school. Performing with the then family band, Mountain Soul, Cory shared bass duties with his brother, Jacob, backing up his brother Daniel and parents Shawn and Amanda until 1998. Cory studied trumpet throughout high school, and began singing in the Concert Choir at Morristown-West in 2004. He rejoined Mountain Soul just 2 months after receiving his first mandolin, where his youthful energy and broad vocal range earned him a leading role in the band he helped to found years earlier. Cory was featured as a member of the Concert Choir at Maryville College, and joined the Knoxville-based americana group Brendon James Wright and the Wrongs in 2007. Cory can be heard around town with Mountain Soul, Brendon James Wright and the Wrongs, and The Jonathan Maness. Cory is featured on the 2011 release Mountain Soul as well as the up and coming Time, Love, and Money release from fellow Mountain Soul member Jonathan Maness.
Jonathan grew up in a house overflowing with music. As the son of a classical pianist and a bluegrass banjo player, he regularly gathered around the living room with his family to sing 3 and 4 part gospel music. This became some of the best ear training he could have. Picking up guitar at the age of 10, he went on to get a Bachelor's degrees in classical guitar performance and music industry studies with a concentration in recording from Appalachian State University. In 2006 he began building his resume as a sideman with Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike. Since then he has played with Young Harmony, the Dixie Bee-Liners, and the Watkins Family. In 2007, he laid the foundation of his producer portfolio with Clint Alphin's Effigy. He is an experienced audio engineer, having completely engineered 4 seasonal EP's for Larkin Poe, the dynamic sister duo formerly known as the Lovell Sisters in 2010. Today his production credits include Mountain Soul's self-titled release, and his own debut full-length project, Time, Love, and Money. Both of these projects are slated for release in 201
